Monkey River Boat Tour
This tour takes you to explore the landscape around the Monkey River. It’s named for its many howler monkeys, although they’re just one of the many species that make their home here. There’s also a cultural component to this tour, and you’ll get to visit with locals at the Monkey River Village.

Your tour begins with a slow-moving cruise for around 3 to 4 miles (5 km to 13 km). Besides monkeys, you can also expect to see iguanas lounging on the tree branches. You might also see crocodiles, tropical birds, and butterflies.
Eventually, you’ll hop out of your boat and go for a walk through the rainforest. Your guide will stir up some activity by whacking the tree branches with a machete – this will get the monkeys to make their trademark howls. As you walk, you’ll also learn about the different medicinal plants that indigenous people use to cure what ails them.
When you return to the boat, you can cool off with a swim in the river before heading back. Once at the village, you’ll get to have a typical lunch at a local restaurant. Chat with locals as you dine, and get to know more about daily life on the banks of the Monkey River.
