You'll launch your boats near the La Virgen Bridge on the Sarapiquí River. Your guide will review safety instructions for navigating the Class II and Class III rapids of the river. These rapids are considered medium-strength, and go by nicknames like "Ay Caramba" and "Confusion."
This swiftly moving river will shoot you past lowland tropical rainforest. Despite your fast pace, try to keep an eye out for monkeys and toucans in the trees. As you paddle the calmer portions of the river, your guide will pass out a snack of fresh fruit.
Depending on the river's conditions, the tour can last from 1.5 to 2 hours. At the end of the tour, a staff member will greet you with a cold beer or juice and a towel. You'll dry off and then begin the drive back to La Fortuna.
