Lost Fumaroles

Explore the Tilarán mountain landscape on a hike through the Los Perdidos Hills. You’ll be off the beaten path with a naturalist guide, giving you the chance to learn about the intricacies of Costa Rican wildlife.

Lost Fumaroles

Arenal

Your trek starts out with a 30-minute drive from La Fortuna. You’ll explore a landscape formed 90,000 years ago by volcanic activity. This trek covers 7.5 miles (12 km) through the rainforest, so be prepared for a long, challenging active hike.

Along the way, you’ll see volcanic fumaroles and hot springs. Take a dip in a natural mud bath! The volcanic mud has minerals that are said to be good for your skin. Want to freshen up after the mud? Your route also passes by rivers and waterfalls where you’ll have the chance to swim.
