One Day The Springs Thermals

This tour offers travelers the chance to soak in hot springs, see the Arenal Volcano, and shop for crafts in the town of Sarchí — all within a single day. The tour departs from San José in the morning and returns late in the evening.

One Day The Springs Thermals

San Jose

Arenal is renowned for its bucolic beauty. The volcano – which until recently routinely spewed lava from its top – is iconic and impressive. Rainforests spread out beneath its base, clouds hover near the summit, and animals roam everywhere in between. The hot springs that are heated from it are without question the country’s best.

This tour leaves San José at 8 AM. The first stop is the small artisan town of Sarchí. Handicraft capital of the country, Sarchí is filled with small stores and master craftsmen hawking their wares. It’s also the site of the world’s largest oxcart, a two-story high cart that is nearly 45 feet (14 m) long and weighs over two tons. Sarchí is a great place to shop for gifts to bring home.

The journey continues on into the mountains, passing pineapple farms, cattle ranches, and mango groves as you make your way to the town of La Fortuna. Once in La Fortuna, you’ll enjoy lunch at a cozy restaurant that has great food and stellar views of the Arenal Volcano.

After your meal, you will head to The Springs Resort and Spa. ABC’s sixth season of The Bachelor was filmed here in 2011; not surprisingly, it’s a beautiful place. There are eighteen pools, with temperatures that range from 83 – 103 °F (28 – 39 °C). Waterfalls lead from one pool to another, with tropical flowers and plants lining the water’s edge. There are chairs to lounge in, bars to order drinks from, and waterslides to fly down. You can also arrange for massages or other spa treatments.

Before heading back to San José, tour participants will be served dinner.

The tour returns to San José around 10 PM.
