Guatemala does not have a lot of developed tourist infrastructure along the coast, so the beaches here don’t get too crowded, in spite of the excellent waves. Almost every day of the year this beach has excellent surf, with the tallest waves from May to October. Paredon Surf House sits on a black sand beach, where the waves form a hollow crest, and break on the beach. The hotel provides guests with surfboards and boogie boards. Take a boat to tour through the local mangrove forest – bird watching here is particularly good between October and January. Nearby Posa del Nance beach has sea turtle watching from June to November.

Paredon Surf House has four different types of accommodations – suites, private beachfront bungalows, small cabins called “casitas,” and a group loft in the guesthouse’s main building. The four beach bungalows are on stilts, and sit right on the beach. The casitas also face the beach. In the loft, one set of windows looks out over the beach, and the other side has a view of the volcanoes in the distance.

Casitas have two floors, with an upstairs bedroom and a sitting area downstairs. The sitting area has a sofa bed and a bar. Outside the casita there is more seating on the covered patio.

These accommodations have skylights and thatched roofs, and stay cool with ocean breezes. Your hosts can also provide a fan. Beds all have high-quality mattresses and mosquito netting. There are also facilities where you can do your laundry, and you can access the Internet from the main building.

The sea view suites and the casitas have private bathrooms. The loft and bungalows share two bathrooms. All of the guestroom showers have partially thatched roofs, so you can look up at the sky as you bathe. The shower areas bloom with native plants, transforming your shower into a spa-like experience.

El Paredon surf house has inviting grounds, with lots of activities to keep guests entertained. There is a freshwater pool and a beach volleyball court. You can take a break on the hammocks, or sit on the swing facing the ocean. There’s also a slackline and few table games.

You can eat all of your meals during your stay at the guesthouse, and breakfast is included with your stay. The cook prepares fresh, healthy meals every day. Usually, the menu features Guatemalan dishes and freshly caught fish. The kitchen also serves plenty of vegetarian options, and you can communicate your dietary preferences ahead of time. Every evening Paredon Guesthouse serves a 3-course dinner. All the meals are served at a long communal table, usually outside next to the pool.
