Collective Ceibal

This tour will take you through the rainforest to the Maya archaeological site called Ceibal.

Collective Ceibal

Flores and Santa Elena

Your tour begins with a pickup from either the airport or your hotel. From there you’ll head south to La Pasión River. This river served as an important trade route for the Maya. Once you arrive at the river you’ll climb aboard a boat and set off for Ceibal.

Most of your hike will take place in the shade of the thick forest. Ceibal is named for the many ceiba trees that grow in the area, which the Maya considered sacred. The Maya abandoned Ceibal over a thousand ago, and the rainforest has grown over many of the structures. But visitors can still see portraits of Maya rulers carved into the stone. These are complex designs with interesting hieroglyphs — your guide will be able to provide some insight into their meaning.

After the tour you’ll return to the boat for a picnic lunch. Then you’ll begin your return journey to the hotel or the airport.
