Kayaking Chagres River

Kayaking along the Chagres River is a fun and active way to explore the outdoors in Panama.

The Chagres River is an integral part of the Panamanian landscape. It’s the second largest river in the Panama Canal watershed and is dammed twice to form Gatún Lake and Lake Alajuela. Regardless of the time of year, the river’s waters are a comfortable temperature.

During this tour, you’ll be equipped with kayaks, paddles and lifejackets and will head out into the river to explore. Enjoy dramatic forest scenery as you listen for birdcalls and search for animals – including monkeys, toucans, and iguanas – along the shoreline.

Depending on your timing, you might also see barges pass by. Witnessing one of these massive ships trekking across Panama is a truly incredible sight.

This tour departs daily at 7:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

The duration of the tour depends on where you are staying—from Panama City, the tour lasts around 3 hours; from Gamboa, the tour lasts around 1 hour; from Playa Bonita, the tour lasts around 3.5 hours.
