Medellin

Public transportation is speedy and reliable. In fact, Medellín’s metrocable is one of the city’s chief attractions. It connects the neighborhoods high up in the mountains with the rest of the city and gives you a phenomenal view of the city. There are two lines that serve commuters and then the L Line, which caters to tourists and ends at an ecological nature preserve called Arví Park.

Although Medllín is known for its urban sprawl, it’s also a destination for nature lovers. Travel about two hours outside of the city and arrive at Laguna Guatape. There are incredible views of the lake and a colorful, friendly town. The city’s Parque Explora is a popular aquarium and science center — a must-see for families traveling with kids.

In recent years, the city has invested heavily in public art projects. Many of Columbia’s cities attract visitors with their colonial heritage, but Medellín is a destination for modern architecture. Visit the outdoor sculpture garden Parque Botero, which shows off the work of one of Medellín’s most well famous sculptors, Fernando Botero.
