Ensenada National Park, Chile
The drive to Ensenada and the entrance point to Vicente Perez Rosales National Park is a non-stop barrage of jaw dropping scenery. Ruta 225 follows the curve of Lago Llanquihue and you will struggle to keep your eyes on the road with commanding white capped Volcán Osorno demanding your attention.
More about Ensenada National Park, Chile
Luckily there are plenty of miradores (viewpoints) scattered along the way for you to stop and gape at all shades of blue that meld together to form the lake, mountain, and crystal sky.
Ensenada is nothing more than a smattering of cabañas, restaurants, and hotels along the highway, but it is situated right at the entrance to Vicente National Park and serves as an ideal starting point for your journey into the woods if Puerto Varas' bumping backpacker explorer vibe is too energetic for you. You can opt to stay in local accommodation before trekking into the forest, or just to grab lunch here before continuing into the national park.
From here you can easily hike various trails around Volcán Osorno, summit with a guide, ski the slopes if visiting in winter, or visit the explosive cascadas (waterfalls) of Petrohué.
We believe travel is more than ticking destinations off a list – it’s about discovering new places deeply, feeling connected wherever you go, and knowing you have a trusted team behind you every step of the way.
