Naxos

The interior of Naxos is dominated by a spine of hills that give way to deep, vegetated gorges. The green walls of the gorges are dotted with native shrubs, creating cool corridors that invite hikers. Walking through these valleys reveals narrow streams and shaded trails that contrast with the bright façades of the villages perched on the slopes. The villages retain traditional whitewashed walls, narrow lanes and modest squares that echo centuries of island life.
