Should I Leave Tips in Portugal?
Tipping is appreciated but not obligatory in Portugal. Service charges are not typically added to bills, and wages do not depend on tips as heavily as in some countries.

At restaurants, leaving 5-10% for good service is generous by local standards. Many Portuguese simply round up the bill or leave small change. A 15-20% tip would be considered very generous.
For cafes and bars, rounding up or leaving small coins is common but not expected. Tipping for counter service is unusual.
Hotel porters appreciate 1-2 euros per bag. Housekeeping tips of 1-2 euros per day are thoughtful but not expected. Tour guides and drivers warrant tips of 5-10 euros per person for a full-day tour if service was excellent.
Taxi drivers do not expect tips, but rounding up to the nearest euro is a nice gesture. The same applies to hairdressers and other service providers.
In Portugal, tips are always given in cash, even if you pay the bill by card.
