Places you'll stay
San Andres
The coral reef that can be walked in waist‑deep water at El Acuario instantly identifies San Andrés, a Colombian island perched 750 km off the mainland in the Caribbean Sea. The island belongs to the department of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina and forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized in 2000 for its cultural landscape shaped by Afro‑Caribbean, English‑speaking and Colombian influences. With a permanent population of about 75 000, the town of San Andrés clusters around the historic waterfront of San Luis and the hilltop district of La Loma, where a wooden staircase leads to a panoramic view of the turquoise lagoon.
Cartagena
The city’s massive stone walls and the hilltop convent that watches over the harbor give Cartagena a silhouette that has defined Caribbean ports for centuries. Cartagena lies on Colombia’s northern coast, where the Caribbean Sea meets the mouths of the Magdalena and Sinú rivers. Founded on 1 June 1533, it is among South America’s oldest colonial settlements and today serves as the capital of the Bolívar Department.
Bogota
Bogotá crowns the Colombian Andes at 2,640 metres, a high‑altitude capital where clouds often drift through streets lined with colonial façades. The city serves as Colombia’s political and cultural hub, situated in the Bogotá savanna between the Eastern and Central mountain ranges. With roughly eight million residents, it blends modern skyscrapers with the cobbled alleys of its historic core.
