Volcanoes in Guatemala

DESTINATION GUIDES

Hiking up volcanoes in Guatemala will bring you to some of the most breathtaking views in the country. Near the city of Quetzaltenango, you can hike to the summit of the Tajamulco Volcano, the highest volcano in Central America. The three volcanoes near Lake Atitlán – Atitlán, San Pedro, and Tolimán – have become popular hiking destinations thanks to their unparalleled vistas of Guatemala’s most famous lake. Some volcanoes in Guatemala are active and occasionally emit fumes or ash. Guides help visitors remain safe during hikes. The Pacaya Volcano erupted as recently as 2014, while the Agua Volcano has not erupted since 1541. At the Santa María Volcano outside of Quetzaltenango, you can still see a large crater left from its 1902 eruption. An expedition on any of these volcanoes will be a memorable experience.
