Bird Watching on Pipeline Road

Enjoy a morning hike along Pipeline Road in the Soberanía National Park and search for a variety of tropical birds. Pipeline Road is one of Panama’s best birding sites.

Pipeline Road consistently sets records for the number of birds spotted in a 24-hour window—the count has reached 367 different species of birds. Common bird sightings include the Keel-billed Toucan, Thick-billed Mot-Mot, Slaty-tailed Trogon, and a variety of wrens, tanagers, and flycatchers.

Not only does this area afford incredible bird watching opportunities, but it also allows you to observe other exotic plant and animal species. You might spot howler monkeys, sloths, anteaters, and agoutis.

This tour also includes the option to visit the Panama Rainforest Discovery Center. The Discovery Center has trails that extend into the forest and a 100-foot (30-m) observation tower—the view from the top of the tower is incredible. A visit to the Panama Rainforest Discovery Center is an additional charge for this tour.

This tour departs daily at approximately 5:45 a.m. The duration depends on where you are coming from—from Panama City, the tour lasts around five hours; from Gamboa, the tour lasts around 3 hours; and from Playa Bonita, the tour lasts around 5.5 hours.
