Places you'll stay
Jimbaran
Jimbaran is known as the seafood capital of Bali. The bay has a beautiful sunset, punctuated by jetliners landing at the nearby Denpasar airport.
Ubud
Set in Bali’s lush interior, Ubud is the island’s cultural hub. As of late, it has become bustling tourist destination which bears little resemblance to a traditional Balinese village. Patches of paradise can still be found in Ubud, and it remains the center for spiritual tourism.
Nusa Dua
Nusa Dua is known for its long, sandy beach lines with international luxury hotel chains. Situated on the southeast coast of Bali, Nusa Dua can be reached from Denpasar by taxi or private car in around 35 minutes.
Uluwatu
Uluwatu has some of the world’s best surf breaks, beautiful hidden beaches, and epic sunset views. The limestone cliff-fringed peninsula is home to the iconic Uluwatu Temple and other cultural opportunities. The area hasn’t been overdeveloped, so it’s still relaxing and peaceful. There’s a variety of accommodations available from inexpensive surfer rooms to deluxe resorts; and cliffside dining options with panoramic ocean vistas. Uluwatu is on the Southwestern tip of the Bukit Peninsula about 1 hour south of Ngurah Rai Airport.
Moments to look forward to
Batur Volcano
Find one of the most spectacular sunrise locations in Bali at the summit of this active volcano. Mount Batur is also known as Gunung Batur and is about 7.5 miles (12 km) east of Kintamani, a mountainous region known for its tree-climbing dogs. The volcano is a UNESCO Heritage site as well as home to one of the largest and most impressive calderas in the world. Spectacular views (and a decent leg workout) are the highlights of this climbing adventure.
Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary
A unique combination of nature preserve, wild animal park, and Hindu temple complex, the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary has much more than monkey business going on. This 31-acre (12.5 ha) park in central Ubud is home to more than 700 Balinese long-tailed monkeys, three ancient temples, and swarms of tourists hoping for that elusive monkey selfie. Located in the lush forest area at the end of Jalan Monkey Forest Road, the Padangtegal Mandala Wisata Wanara Wana Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is considered an important spiritual and educational center.
Uluwatu Temple
This Balinese Hindu temple is in a spectacular location perched on the side of steep limestone cliffs towering 229 feet (70 m) above the Indian Ocean. One of the best spots for sunset photos, Uluwatu Temple also has packs of kleptomaniac gray macaque monkeys and traditional Kecak dance performances. It’s a trek to visit this temple at the southern tip of the Bukit Peninsula, but the sunset vistas and neighboring beaches make it worth the trip.
