Family Road Trip and Island Adventure
Planning a family trip for twelve is not easy, but thanks to Anywhere.com, we got to experience the full flavor of Panama. Panama City is a wonderful destination, and we made some lasting memories.
A big family reunion trip…
We were a huge family group of 12 with two younger kids traveling to Panama for the *ultimate* family reunion trip. We chose Gamboa and Panama City, hoping to get some adventure time in while experiencing the slower pace of the city. The national park in Gamboa has some amazing nature trails. We also took the aerial tram tour which the kids enjoyed very much. Our rooms at Gamboa Rainforest Resort were amazing, and the views unforgettable.
We cruised through the Panama Canal…
The highlight of the trip was looking at the Panama Canal. It was definitely worth seeing. Unless you experience it on the boat you won't really fully understand the amazing engineering of the canal. We took the boat tour that takes us through the canal and all the other transportation utilizing this route. I’d also recommend the San Blas Islands 1-day Tour. The San Blas Islands were amazing, beautiful, unique and *definitely* worth experiencing. We visited the indigenous groups and had a glimpse into their local culture.
Places you'll stay
Gamboa
Lying along the banks of the Panama Canal halfway across the isthmus, Gamboa is about a 45-minute drive from Panama City. With an abundance of natural beauty and an incredibly close distance to Panama City, this area is simply a must for anyone passing through the capital.
Panama City
Panama City is a hub in every sense of the word. Located in the Gulf of Panama along the Pacific Coast, Panama City sits in the heart of the country and serves as the main artery through which the rest of Panama receives its visitors, commerce, and culture.
Moments to look forward to
Panama Canal
The Panama Canal is one of the world’s most impressive engineering feats. The canal extends 80 kilometers (50 mi) from Panama City on the Pacific Ocean to Colón on the Caribbean Sea. It’s built at one of the lowest and narrowest points in Panama, and runs right through the Continental Divide. More than 14,000 ships pass through the canal annually, carrying some 300 million tons of cargo. As such, the Panama Canal is one of the largest generators of income for Panama—in 2011, the canal generated $800 million, some two percent of the country’s GDP.
