Ollantaytambo Half Day Tour PhotoOllantaytambo Half Day Tour Photo

This half-day tour takes you to one of the most impressive Inca sites in the Sacred Valley: Ollantaytambo. Perfect for travelers with limited time, this experience blends history, architecture, and stunning Andean landscapes into a compact yet enriching visit.

You’ll explore a site that once served as both a ceremonial center and a military stronghold, famously known for its resistance against the Spanish. You’ll also walk through one of the few remaining living Inca towns, where the original urban layout is still preserved.

Tour Description

From Urubamba or elsewhere in the Sacred Valley, you’ll travel into the mountains to visit the ruins of Ollantaytambo. Tucked into the highlands at the gateway of the Sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo is home to a remarkable collection of Inca structures.

An incline separates the archaeological site from the modern town below. You’ll ascend a steep stone staircase to reach several unique Inca buildings, where your guide will explain the site’s strategic, religious, and agricultural significance.

At the Temple of the Sun and the Temple of the Ten Niches, you’ll witness some of the finest examples of Inca stonework, with massive, perfectly fitted stones that have stood the test of time. Some structures remain unfinished, abandoned during the Spanish conquest, offering a glimpse into a pivotal moment in history.

Near the base of the ruins, you’ll stop to admire the Princess Baths, a ceremonial fountain adorned with geometric designs shaped like three steps.

The Sacred Valley was a crucial stronghold for the Inca. When the Spanish first arrived in Ollantaytambo, the Inca successfully drove them away. As you explore the area, you’ll understand why they fought so fiercely to protect this extraordinary landscape of mountains and valleys.
