Staying here will put you right outside the Plaza de Armas, which is one of Cajamarca’s main attractions. Go here to see the Cajamarca Cathedral’s elaborate façade, which was carved out of beige stone in the 17th century. Buildings with picturesque red roofs surround this cathedral. Walking distance from the Plaza is the “Cuarto de Rescate” – the ransom room. This landmark may look like a simple stone structure, but is believed to have been central to the fall of the Inca. According to legend, this room served as the holding cell for Atahualpa, the last Inca king. In the vicinity of this historic district you can find a good deal of restaurants and cafes.
