Huaraz is at the center of adventure sports in the Cordillera Blanca. The city is surrounded by three impressive mountain ranges that offer up all sorts of trekking, climbing, and mountain biking opportunities. Horseback riding is a more mellow way to experience the beauty of the countryside. The town itself has some delicious restaurants and cool coffee houses, as well as a wonderful museum – Museo Arqueológico de Áncash – on local Chavín and Recuay cultures.
The Arawi Pastoruri Hotel is located about 10 blocks from the Plaza de Armas. It’s fairly easy to explore downtown from here, including major attractions like the museum and Cathedral.
