Huachachina Oasis is right outside the town of Ica, in a part of southern Peru known for its vineyards. This is a beautiful place to stop for a vineyard tour that comes with a wine tasting or even a complete gourmet meal. These tours are also a good time to try pisco, a type of clear brandy that’s unique to Peru. When you’re ready to see more of the dunes, climb aboard a buggy and try out a pastime called sandboarding – use it as a sled, or stand up as you would on a snowboard.
Rooms are simple, with a rustic style and hardwood floors. They come with all the necessities, including private bathrooms and wardrobes. There’s also Wi-Fi and cable TV, as well as a view of the swimming pool.
There’s an outdoor pool, where you can soak up the sun and sip freshly mixed drinks from the poolside bar. You can also dine at the on-site restaurant, which specializes in regional dishes. Breakfast is included, so make sure to take advantage of that before you set off on your tours. When you’re ready for a little bit of nightlife, the town of Ica has a few inviting bars and even a couple of dance clubs. Huacachina also has a few places for pisco sours and watching the sunset – a beautiful way to round out your time among the dunes.
