Urubamba is set squarely within Peru’s Sacred Valley. The town makes a good home base for exploring the nearby area—it’s 20 minutes from Ollantaytambo and 40 minutes from Pisac. Another highway heads into the high plains where you’ll find the traditional town of Chinchero and Cusco. Urubamba itself is mellow and friendly. Aside from a cathedral and town square, it doesn’t have many sights. It does, however, have a good assortment of restaurants, bars, and cafés. And the setting, with the snowy peaks of the Cordillera Urubamba in the distance, is spectacular.

Tambo del Inka offers travelers a luxurious experience in the Sacred Valley, and the staff goes to every length to ensure guests with an idyllic stay.

The rooms here are attractive and comfortable. They have wooden floors and fabric wall coverings with Incan motifs. A flat-screen cable TV is found in each bedroom (as well as another in the living room of Senior Suites) to keep guests entertained. Enjoy the valley’s pleasant weather from your private balcony or patio. The beds are comfortable and come equipped with 400-thread-count sheets and a feather duvet. The private bathrooms ensure relaxation and feature upscale bath amenities, a separate shower and bathtub, double sinks, hairdryer, slippers, and robes. All accommodations also come equipped with air conditioning, a work desk, safety deposit box, Wi-Fi access, and mini-bar.

The pool is utterly stunning and includes both indoor and outdoor areas. Whether you choose to enjoy the shade or soak up the sun, indulging in the pool is an absolute must while staying at this hotel. A big wooden deck surrounds the pool and offers guests a nice place to relax on cushioned lounge chairs. The outdoor portion has nice views of the gardens and river.

Guests can exercise at the hotel’s fitness center. There is a range of equipment available, including treadmills, benches, free weights, and more. The fitness center has large windows that overlook the lush gardens, and there are individual televisions in front of each machine to keep guests entertained throughout their workout. Afterwards, visit the hotel’s spa and choose from an array of massages, facials, and hydrotherapy treatments.

Enjoy fresh and innovative Andean cuisine at Tambo del Inka’s Hawa Restaurant. Organic local ingredients are featured in every dish. The restaurant’s exceptional offerings include their signature “Fervour of the Andes,” which involves loin of lamb, quinoa in a champagne soufflé, yellow chili, and toasted pecans. Wash it down with the Valle Encantado, a refreshing drink that incorporates passion fruit, coconut cream, and aguaymanto liquor. Enjoy a second cocktail in the comfortable Kiri Bar.

Tambo del Inka is the only hotel in Urubamba with a private train station, and there are trains that run to Machu Picchu from here. Other features of this hotel include a business center, tour desk, and newspaper delivery.

Feedback from Travelers

We loved this hotel and it would be on the shortlist for any return trip to the Sacred Valley. Architecture and decor are stunning and very much reflective of Andean culture, even though this is a Starwood property. So beautiful and restful. It was the ideal place to rest and recharge from a week of travel, the perfect base from which to tour the SV. Staff was welcoming, friendly and professional.
