This leisurely train ride lets you explore Peru in style and comfort for 3 hours and 30 minutes, as travel professionals, we can't think of a better way to get from point A to point B. Your voyage on the Vistadome train begins in Aguas Calientes, Peru. This is the closest town to the legendary site of Machu Picchu, it is also the home of a namesake hot spring, as 'aguas calientes' translates to 'hot water.' During this portion of the ride, you'll enjoy the rugged beauty of the Peruvian Andes. Over the course of your trip, you will make your through the Sacred Valley as you pass through Ollantaytambo. Finally, you will arrive in Cusco, Peru — the site of Inca ruins, churches, and Spanish-colonial architecture.

What makes your journey part of the fun is all of the treats you'll enjoy riding the Vistadome. For starters, this aptly named train boasts an almost totally transparent 'domed' covering. Oversized windows make up a significant portion of the sides of the train, and continue to curve up into an arch. The only part of the ceiling you cannot see through is the portion that had to be reserved for ventilation and lighting.

Next are the entertainment and refreshments:

  • A fashion show featuring creations made from alpaca wool (if you're making a return trip).

  • The opportunity to learn about Andean culture watch a live dance performance.

  • Refreshments, including a complimentary snack made from local ingredients and a beverage.

  • Alpaca wool mementos that you can purchase as a gift (or keep for yourself).

Please ensure that your on-board luggage weighs no more than 11 pounds (5 kg), so a backpack or carry-on of 62 inches (157 cm) length, width, and height is advised. On-board luggage is an honour-based system; train attendants will not be checking the weight of each individual bag, so please adhere to this rule. For good measure, you are advised to leave the brunt of your luggage in hotel storage and retrieve it upon your return (if going round-trip). If this is a one-way trip, then oversized baggage must be transported via another train at a cost of US$1.80/kg (2.2 pounds). The maximum overflow luggage amount is 22 pounds or 10 kg.

Become a part of the Peruvian landscape when you immerse yourself in the beauty of the country. It may not be as fast as flying, but when was the last time your mode of transport was a part of your adventure? Ride the Vistadome through Peru and you'll never think of trains as boring and uneventful again. The wonders of Peru are calling, and the Vistadome is ready to take you to them; let Anywhere help make this your best vacation yet when we manage booking your additional accommodations and tours.
