Urubamba is found in Peru’s Sacred Valley. Urubamba is a friendly and tranquil town, and is surrounded by utterly spectacular scenery—snow-covered mountains extend into the distance above town. This area is an outdoor hotspot and offers up all sorts of activities, including rafting, horseback riding, hiking, and biking. Machu Picchu also isn’t too far away. San Agustin Monasterio de la Recoleta is a boutique hotel set within a monastery built in the 17th century.
The hotel was remodeled in 2007 and has done well of keeping the charm and architecture of the original building intact. Walking up to the front of the hotel you’ll see the monastery’s original bell tower.
The 30 rooms are clean and lovely, and extend around a well-maintained courtyard. The rooms have lofted bedrooms and a sitting area downstairs with sofas and a cable TV. All rooms are equipped with a private hot water bathroom, hair dryer, international telephone, and safety deposit box. There is a heater to keep you warm during the cooler months and a mini-fridge where you can store drinks and snacks. Wi-Fi access is provided as well.
The hotel’s restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A large buffet is spread out each morning, offering guests a tasty way to fill up before beginning their day. The lobby bar is a great place to socialize and relax—it has fire pits that invite guests to gather over drinks and enjoy fantastic views of the monastery. Andean music often plays in the background, giving the bar a festive feel.
