What Documents Do I Need To Visit Uganda?
All visitors to Uganda require a valid passport and a visa. Most nationalities can obtain an e-visa online before travel or a visa on arrival, though advance application is strongly recommended. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory.
Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date. The most common visa is a Single-Entry Tourist Visa, valid for 90 days and costing $50 USD. Apply online through the Uganda e-visa portal at least 7-10 days before travel; you'll receive an authorization letter to print and present at immigration.
For travelers visiting multiple East African countries, the East African Tourist Visa ($100 USD) covers Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda with multiple entries for 90 days. This is economical if your itinerary includes two or more of these countries.
All travelers over one year of age must present a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate upon entry. This is strictly enforced; travelers without proper documentation may be denied entry or required to receive vaccination at the airport. Get vaccinated at least 10 days before travel. The certificate is valid for life.
If you plan to trek gorillas, you'll need a separate gorilla permit obtained through Uganda Wildlife Authority or your tour operator. These permits cost $800 USD per person per trek and should be booked well in advance, especially for peak season dates.
