Monkey River Tour

Departing from Hopkins, this full-day adventure begins with a scenic one-hour drive down the Southern Highway to the charming Placencia Peninsula. From there, you’ll board a boat for a journey through the lush lagoon and out to the Caribbean Sea, heading toward the mouth of the Monkey River.

As the boat winds its way through mangrove estuaries and upriver, keep your eyes peeled for some of Belize’s most fascinating wildlife. This area is rich with biodiversity—you may spot iguanas sunning on branches, elusive gibnut, turtles, crocodiles, and the iconic black howler monkeys that fill the jungle with their echoing calls.

Birdwatchers will be thrilled by the chance to spot a variety of exotic species in their natural habitat. Your experience includes a stop in the laid-back Monkey River Village, a small Creole community of around 200 residents.
