El río Urubamba está a su máximo entre diciembre y mayo, y es cuando los rápidos son más emocionantes. Cuando el nivel del agua desciende entre junio hasta noviembre, los rápidos se realizan en la sección baja del rio entre Ollantaytambo y Chilca. Los rápidos en esta parte son clase III.
