El Brujo is located 21 (34 km) miles north of Trujillo in the Chicama Valley. The El Brujo pyramid rises some 98 feet (29 m) above the surrounding desert, and was build with tens of thousands of bricks. The walls of the pyramid are covered with images of warriors, plants, and animals. El Brujo is best known, however, for a well-preserved female mummy that was discovered here. The mummy, which is known as the Lady of Cao, was likely a member of the Moche royalty. Travelers can visit an onsite museum and see the mummy and other artifacts on display.
