What Should I Wear for Gorilla Trekking?
Gorilla trekking requires specific gear for navigating dense forest terrain. Preparation is essential for comfort and safety during what can be a challenging but rewarding hike.

Footwear is critical: wear sturdy, waterproof hiking boots with good ankle support. The terrain is often steep, muddy, and slippery regardless of season. Gaiters help keep debris out of boots and protect against thorns.
Wear long pants (not shorts) to protect against stinging nettles encountered in the forest undergrowth. Long-sleeved shirts provide similar protection for arms. Neutral, earth-toned colors (greens, browns, khaki) are preferred over bright colors.
Bring gardening gloves or leather work gloves for gripping vegetation when climbing steep sections. A waterproof rain jacket is essential, as rain can occur at any time in the forest.
Pack light for the trek itself, carrying only essentials in a small daypack: water, snacks, camera, rain cover for your pack, and any medications. Porters are available (and highly recommended) to carry additional items and provide assistance during challenging sections.
