Tourist areas, national parks, and established lodges maintain high security standards. Safari travelers are rarely targets of crime as they move within protected circuits with professional guides. The most common issues affecting visitors are opportunistic crimes in urban areas.

In Kampala and other cities, be aware of pickpocketing, bag snatching, and phone theft, particularly in crowded areas like markets and bus stations. Avoid displaying expensive jewelry, electronics, or large amounts of cash. Use reputable taxi services or ride-hailing apps like Bolt or Uber rather than hailing vehicles on the street.

Travel at night requires extra caution. Highway travel after dark is discouraged due to poor lighting, pedestrians, livestock, and occasional security concerns. If arriving on a late flight, arrange transfers in advance through your accommodation or tour operator.

For wildlife areas, the primary safety considerations are related to animals rather than crime. Follow your guide's instructions regarding wildlife behavior and camp safety procedures.
