What Should I Bring For Gorilla Trekking?
Gorilla trekking requires specific gear for challenging forest conditions. Proper preparation ensures comfort during what may be the highlight of your Uganda adventure.

Footwear is critical. Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots with ankle support and good traction are essential. The forest terrain is often steep, muddy, and slippery. Break in new boots before your trip to avoid blisters.
Long pants are mandatory—no shorts in the forest. Choose sturdy, quick-drying trousers that can handle thorny vegetation. Gaiters protect your lower legs from mud, stinging nettles, and the rare safari ant. Many trekkers tuck pants into socks and add gaiters over the top.
Gardening gloves protect your hands when grasping vegetation for balance on steep slopes. A waterproof rain jacket is essential regardless of forecast; weather changes quickly in mountain forests. Pack a small daypack with water, snacks, and your camera.
Porters are available for hire at the trailhead (highly recommended) and can carry your pack, assist on difficult terrain, and push you up steep sections if needed. Their fee supports local communities.
