Should I Leave Tips in Rwanda?
Tipping is appreciated in Rwanda and forms an important part of income for service workers in the tourism industry. Tips can be given in U.S. dollars or Rwandan Francs.

For gorilla trekking, tipping the lead guide and trackers is customary. Guidelines suggest $10-20 USD per person for the main guide and $5-10 USD per person to be shared among trackers and porters. Porter services during treks (highly recommended) are tipped separately, typically $10-15 USD.
At lodges, a staff tip box is usually available at reception, with contributions shared among all staff. A suggested amount is $10-20 USD per day per room for the team. For exceptional personal service, individual tips are also appropriate.
Restaurant tips of 5-10% are appreciated where service charges aren't included. Safari drivers and guides typically receive $15-20 USD per person per day.
Always tip in cash, as most establishments cannot process tips via credit card.
