Drive about an hour to the Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve to see some of the area’s wildlife. While you’re there you can float the river to see the Maya artifacts inside the Aktun Tunichil Muknal Cave. The Maya ruins of Cahal Pech are only a 5-minute drive from Cassia Hill – explore a small complex of temples that the jungle is attempting to reclaim. While you’re in the area you should also drive to see Xunantunich, a Maya site where you can climb to the top of El Castillo, the site’s tallest temple. Staying at Cassia Hill Resort you’ll be just a couple of minutes away from San Ignacio, where you can find plenty of restaurants and services for visitors.
