Lake Atitlán is a large freshwater lake bordered by three volcanoes and ringed with a number of small towns. Hotel Tolimán stands in one of the less touristy towns, San Lucas Tolimán. It is quite small, peaceful, and traditional. This is a lovely area for bird watching and hiking, and the hotel offers hammocks and kayaks for taking the day at your own pace. On a day trip you might take a guided hike up one of the volcanoes—an excellent way to continue enjoying the beauty of Atitlán. You might also enjoy a boat ride around the lake or to a larger town like Panajachel.
The rooms at Hotel Tolimán are tastefully decorated. All have private bathrooms. A variety of bed options are available; rooms contain two full beds, one king-size bed, or two twin beds. An “integrated” room comes with two bedrooms, one with two full beds and the other with two singles. The hotel also offers an apartment with two bedrooms, a living room, and a porch; one of these bedrooms has a king-size bed, while the other has two singles. A luxurious final option is a suite containing a living room, fireplace, and king-size bed.
Hotel Tolimán keeps a vegetable garden that grows fresh produce used in the restaurant’s fare. The restaurant at Hotel Tolimán has a charming dining room decked out in warm tones of wood as well as a lovely patio facing the lake and volcano. The kitchen serves both Guatemalan cuisine and international dishes, and has built a good reputation around their fresh and well-prepared food. The bar, meanwhile, is stocked with national and imported beers, wines, and fixings for cocktails.
If you want to host a party in a beautiful place, the hotel’s conference room can hold up to 60 guests, the hotel can sleep up to 70, and the restaurant can serve up to 150.
The management has a mindful view of the hotel’s effects on Lake Atitlán. This influences some of their operations with septic tanks and garbage disposal. The kitchen composts organic waste and uses the compost on its organic garden. A carefulness toward water and electricity usage is expected of the hotel staff and guests.
Environmental mindfulness doesn’t cause Hotel Tolimán to skip on amenities though. As a guest, you’ll be invited to use the hotel’s wireless Internet and swimming pool. The hotel also has a private helipad.
