Panajachel is a midsize town set along the northern shores of Lake Atitlan. It’s a fun place that’s quite popular with travelers. There are cute cafes and tasty restaurants to sample, as well as a range of activities to enjoy—these include hiking and zip lining in the Reserva Natural Atitlan, kayaking on the lake, and mountain biking in the surrounding hillsides.
Hotel Atitlan is a beautiful hotel inside and out. The rooms are quaint and individually decorated, and the grounds are utterly spectacular. The whole property looks out at Lake Atitlan and the San Pedro Volcano.
The hotel’s 60 rooms are clean, quiet, and spacious. Each is decorated with hand-woven fabrics and handcrafted furniture. The floors are made from traditional tile and covered with locally made rugs. Modern conveniences, including cable TV, Internet access, and in-room phones, add to the experience. The beds have high-quality sheets, hypoallergenic pillows, and goose-down comforters. The bathrooms boast ceramic tile floors and marble walls—they also have hot water showers, large mirrors, and bathroom amenities. Private balconies and patios overlook the gardens and lake.
The gardens are one of the hotel’s finest features. Pathways wind through the gardens, revealing an extensive collection of roses, hibiscus, heliconias, and passionflowers—in total, there are over 500 different species here. The gardens attract all kinds of birds, including parrots, toucans, and macaws. The swimming pool and Jacuzzi overlook the lake and gardens—you can swim and relax here while enjoying unbeatable views. It’s completely peaceful.
After relaxing by the pool, you can head to the hotel’s restaurant, which features an array of regional and international dishes. Many of the fruits and vegetables that are used in meals are grown in local farms. The main dining room enjoys breathtaking views and is nicely decorated. The bar, with its huge windows, wood columns and fireplace, is cozy and comfortable. It’s a great place to unwind with a drink at the end of the day.
Events, parties, and weddings can be held at the hotel. The staff is friendly and will help you orchestrate a successful event.
The hotel, the garden and its settting was absolutely fantastic. One of the most beautiful places I’ve seen. Staff was very nice, especially Juan Carlos at the bar. The only suggestion for the hotel would have been a ceiling fan or standing fan for the room at night.
