The town of Panajachel is located along the northern shores of Lake Atitlán. Panajachel is the hippest town in this area and has attracted travelers for well over fifty years. The town is scattered with shops, cafés and restaurants, as well as a fair share of bars. Outside of town, travelers can enjoy hiking and zip lining in the Reserva Natural Atitlán, as well as mountain biking, swimming, and kayaking in other nearby areas.
The Rancho Grande Inn is a midrange hotel in Panajachel. It has beautiful grounds and an attentive staff. There is a small heated swimming pool where guests can cool off, as well as a number of lounge chairs that offer up a nice place to sunbathe.
Accommodations consist of small cabins that surround a grassy lawn. The rooms are comfortable but fairly simple. Each is distinct and individually decorated. All have a large bathroom, hot water shower, cable TV, and telephone; Junior Suites also have a living room. Additionally, all rooms have a small fireplace where wood fires can be lit during the cooler months. The accommodations at the Rancho Grande Inn can sleep 1–6 people.
The breakfast at the Rancho Grande Inn is notoriously good. The pancakes are especially popular and are served with local honey and homemade jelly. The breakfast also includes fresh orange juice, scrambled eggs, honey buns, and black beans. The aromatic regional coffee will definitely help you start your day.
Massages treatments – including reflexology, deep tissue, and Swedish massages – are offered to guests by professional therapists. This is a great way to really unwind while traveling.
Rancho Grande Inn is a quiet place—it’s not along a main street and has rooms that are set back from the road. It’s a short walk to the shops, restaurants, and nightlife of Panajachel.
