Set within the northern reaches of Petén, the Tikal National Park is one of Guatemala’s most treasured areas. It contains the incredible Mayan site of Tikal, where you can visit the ruins of massive temples and pyramids that date back to the 7th century. It’s truly amazing. The park, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, is surrounded by thick jungle. Paths that connect the ruins to one another wind through the jungle and give travelers good looks into the forest. There are also some zip-lines here that can be enjoyed.

The Hotel Tikal Inn sits on the edge of the jungle and is a ten-minute walk to the center of the Mayan ruins. This hotel provides travelers with a comfortable setting to relax, bird watch, and enjoy the natural beauty of the Tikal National Park. The setting is especially nice as it allows you to explore the park during periods of time when other travelers are not around.

The rooms here are big and comfortable and centered around a swimming pool. There are standard rooms, junior suites, and private bungalows available. All accommodations have a private bathroom and ceiling fan. The junior suites are set within two villas that are near the pool or jungle. They have two queen size beds and a front porch with wooden furniture. The standard rooms are located in the main building and have two double beds.

The bungalows have thatched-roofs and ample windows to let in fresh air and natural light. They are located both around the pool and in the garden. They all have small patios set with chairs—these provide guests with a nice place to sit and enjoy the hotel’s tropical setting. It’s not uncommon to see a range of animals while staying here, including toucans, coatis, and howler monkeys. Waking up to the sound of the jungle is pleasant.

The hotel’s restaurant serves three meals a day. The breakfasts are large and have good coffee. The food is not gourmet but it is satisfying, especially after a long day in Tikal. Dinner options include pesto pasta and grilled fish.

The hotel has a large pool where guests can swim. The pool is a refreshing place to relax after a hot day in the park. There are sun chairs and shade umbrellas that surround the pool. The Hotel Tikal Inn also has a conference center that can hold up to 80 people.

Do note that there is electricity in the morning and evening. During other times of the day electricity may not be available.
