What Documents Do I Need To Visit Tanzania?
All visitors to Tanzania require a valid passport and, in most cases, a visa. As of 2025, Tanzania has transitioned to an electronic visa system, and visa-on-arrival is no longer available. You must obtain your e-visa before departure.

Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your date of entry and have at least one blank page for stamps. Apply for your e-visa through the official Tanzania immigration website well in advance of your trip, as processing can take several days.
For U.S. citizens, Tanzania requires a multiple-entry visa costing $100, valid for one year, even for a single visit. Citizens of other countries typically pay $50 for a standard single-entry visa valid for 90 days.
If you are arriving from or transiting through a country with yellow fever risk, you must present a valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate. If traveling directly from the United States or Europe without a transit of more than 12 hours in an endemic country, this is not required.
For travelers visiting Zanzibar, the same visa covers both destinations. However, Zanzibar requires mandatory travel insurance, which can be purchased online before arrival for approximately $44 and covers you for three months.
