Your tour begins with a boat voyage down the river, giving you the chance to appreciate the jungle scenery. Eventually you’ll arrive at Bomba Village, where you can take some time to explore the local woodworking shops. Next, you’ll take a bus to the Altun Ha, a site that the Maya first built in the 2nd century. The main building here is the Temple of the Masonry Altars—it’s 54 feet (16 m) tall and visitors are allowed to climb it.

After your informative tour of Altun Ha, you’ll head to Maruba Spa where you’ll have lunch. Then you have the option to choose from an interesting selection of spa services. Maruba specializes in mud treatments, and there’s an outdoor area with several stone mud tubs.

Attraction Visited

Altun Ha

Out of all of the Mayan sites in Belize, Altun Ha is the most easily accessible from Belize City. This site was once a major trading center, as indicated by the discoveries of jade, jewelry, pottery, and elaborate sculptures. Just 30 miles (50 km) north of Belize City, Altun Ha is a popular day trip for both cruise ship passengers and independent travelers.

Lamanai Site and New River Ambergris Caye

This tour takes you from Ambergris Caye to the mainland, where you’ll set sail down the legendary Lamanai River toward a Maya ruin. Lamanai has sat, shrouded in jungle, for many centuries, and didn't get any attention from archeologists until the 1970s. But this tour truly isn’t about the destination – travelers should take this trip especially for the journey through the gorgeous surroundings of the Belizean jungle alone.
