Lamanai Jungle River
Enjoy a delightful continental breakfast as we make our way to the mainland by boat. Along the way the guides point out the rich variety of flora & fauna. Once on the main land we board a private bus or van that takes us to Tower Hill. Upon arrival at Tower Hill we board another boat that takes us down the New River to Lamanai. As we make our way down the river we encounter birds, monkeys & crocodiles. At Lamanai we take a break for lunch, served under the canopy of the jungle; followed by a guided tour of the ruins that perch on the water’s edge.
Attraction Visited
Lamanai is an extensive and diverse Mayan site set deep in the jungle along the banks of the New River Lagoon. One of the longest-occupied Mayan sites in Belize, Lamanai served as home to up to 35,000 Maya from 500 B.C., up until the beginning of the Spanish colonial period in the 17th century.

This tour takes you from Ambergris Caye to the mainland, where you’ll set sail down the legendary Lamanai River toward a Maya ruin. Lamanai has sat, shrouded in jungle, for many centuries, and didn't get any attention from archeologists until the 1970s. But this tour truly isn’t about the destination – travelers should take this trip especially for the journey through the gorgeous surroundings of the Belizean jungle alone.
Combine history, culture, and relaxation on this tour of the Altun Ha ruins and the Maruba Spa. The spa has treatment areas out in the open that blend in with the jungle surroundings.
Discover the essence of Belize with a trip to Altun Ha, known as “rock stone water” in Maya. Embark on an exciting journey aboard our skiffs for a scenic 30-minute boat ride across San Pedro Lagoon and through the Northern River, navigating past potential obstacles depending on the season. Along the way, seize the opportunity to witness the abundant jungle wildlife.
Arriving at Bomba Village, explore local traditions and find unique souvenirs. The adventure continues with a van ride along the Pan-American Highway to the ancient Altun Ha archaeological site, where you’ll marvel at stelae, altars, temples, and more, some restored and others as they were discovered since excavations began in 1965.
The journey doesn’t end there; proceed to Maruba, a distinctive jungle lodge, for an optional lunch, spa treatment, horseback riding, or simply relax amidst the sounds of nature. Conclude this unforgettable experience with a return boat trip to Ramon’s Village Resort on Ambergris Caye, making your Belize adventure truly memorable.
