Flores is located on a small island in Lake Petén Itzá. The island is connected to the mainland town of Santa Elena via a causeway. Flores is cute—the houses are painted in pastels and cobblestone streets wind through town. There is a nice offering of tasty restaurants and cafés here. Aside from strolling around town, travelers to this area can go kayaking or rent mountain bikes and ride through the surrounding hills. There are also places on the mainland to go hiking or bird watching.
