What Documents Do I Need To Visit Laos?
Most visitors to Laos require a valid passport and a tourist visa. Visa-on-arrival is available at international airports and most land border crossings for citizens of many countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and most European nations.

Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your date of entry and have at least two blank pages for visa stamps. The standard tourist visa allows a stay of 30 days and costs approximately US$40, payable in cash upon arrival. You will also need a recent passport-sized photograph.
Laos also offers an e-visa system for travelers who prefer to arrange their visa in advance. The e-visa can be applied for online and is valid for entry at select international checkpoints. It provides the same 30-day stay as the visa-on-arrival.
From 2026, Laos is implementing a Digital Arrival and Departure Card system. Travelers will need to complete the online form within three days before arrival at major entry points including Vientiane, Luang Prabang, and Pakse airports.
Some nationalities, including citizens of Japan, South Korea, Russia, and several ASEAN countries, enjoy visa-free entry for varying periods. We recommend checking current requirements with your travel consultant before departure.
