What Is The Weather Like In Laos?
Laos has a tropical monsoon climate with two distinct seasons: a wet season from May to October and a dry season from November to April. Temperatures and rainfall vary significantly based on altitude and region.

The dry season, particularly November through February, offers the most comfortable weather for travel. Temperatures are mild by tropical standards, ranging from 15 to 28 degrees Celsius, with cool mornings in the highlands. December and January are ideal months for outdoor activities, river cruises, and sightseeing.
From March to May, temperatures climb to their highest, often exceeding 35 degrees Celsius in the lowlands. This hot, dry period can also bring smoky conditions in the north due to agricultural burning practices, particularly affecting visibility around Luang Prabang.
The wet season brings afternoon thunderstorms and occasional heavy rain, particularly in August and September. While travel remains possible, some rural roads may become difficult, and river levels fluctuate. However, the countryside is at its most lush and green during this time, and waterfalls are at their most impressive.
In the highlands, temperatures remain cooler year-round, and nights can be surprisingly chilly from November to February, so packing layers is advisable if you plan to explore the mountainous regions.
