Cultural Highlights of Ecuador
From the lovely city of Quito to the highlands of Cuenca, our vacation to Ecuador was filled with rich cultural experiences and a superlative experience to remember.
Just like any trip, it got interesting from the start...
Ecuador is beautiful. We had a few hiccups with plane delays when we first arrived, but everything went better starting from there. For this friend's trip, Anywhere worked with us on the trip plan until we were entirely satisfied. We spent one day in Mindo exploring the "Middle of The World", and the second day on the "Avenues of the Volcanoes" train excursion. Both were lovely times.
The best places we’ve stayed at...
Our accommodations were excellent and exceeded our expectations. Samari Spa Resort in Baños is a fabulous hotel. We enjoyed the termales and plaza. We also had a lovely meal at Cafe Hood in the area. Our last few days were spent in Cuenca, and the valley tours were amazing.
A friendcation to remember.
All our transfers happened, and were on time. Our private driver, Ricardo, was friendly and lovely. We were so glad we decided to make this trip happen. Not only did we feel safe with all of the arrangements by Anywhere in a foreign destination, but all the locals and staff we met were also friendly and made sure we had a great time. It was truly an outstanding experience, I wouldn’t hesitate to visit again!
Places you'll stay
Quito
Set an elevation of 9,350 ft (2,850 m), Quito is the highest capital city in the world. The population of this bustling city is a contrasting mix of Ecuadorians sporting sleek business suits and colorful indigenous clothing. These contrasts exemplify the mix of politics, history and culture that define Quito. Founded in the 16th century atop the ruins of an Inca city, Quito is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a premier destination for those visiting Ecuador.
Destination
Tena
Nestled between lush hillsides and snaking rivers is the town of Tena, the whitewater capital of Ecuador. Many travelers come here just to raft or kayak on the many rivers that come raging down from the Sierras. For those looking for a drier experience, the surrounding wildlife and indigenous communities also offer a great way to spend your time.
Destination
Baños
Set at the base of the looming Tungurahua Volcano, the peaceful town of Baños gets its name from the many thermal spas that are scattered around the area. It’s an outdoor adventure hub as well, with whitewater rafting, hiking and mountain biking opportunities nearby.
Destination
Cuenca
Cuenca is a colonial marvel and one of the most attractive cities in Ecuador. Nestled in the highlands, its charming streets, grand plazas and churches span multiple levels of the mountainside, making the city more than postcard-worthy.

Otavalo Textile Market
A bright mosaic of textiles literally blankets the town of Otavalo during its famous market days. As one of the oldest and largest textile markets in the Andes, this colorful experience is not to be missed.
