Where Is Uganda?

Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa, bordered by Kenya to the east, South Sudan to the north, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, Rwanda to the southwest, and Tanzania to the south. The country straddles the equator and is known as the "Pearl of Africa" for its stunning natural beauty.

Uganda covers approximately 241,038 square kilometers (93,065 square miles), making it roughly the size of the United Kingdom. The country is positioned at the heart of Africa's Great Lakes region, with Lake Victoria, Africa's largest lake, forming much of its southeastern border.

The landscape is remarkably diverse for a country of its size. Western Uganda features the dramatic Rwenzori Mountains, whose peaks exceed 5,000 meters and still bear permanent glaciers. The southwest is home to the famous Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, where mountain gorillas live in misty highland forests. Central Uganda sits on a plateau averaging 1,000-1,400 meters in elevation, providing comfortable year-round temperatures.
