La Posada Cobán

Cobán is a midsize town in the highlands of Alta Verapaz. The surrounding area is lovely and filled with forests and coffee plantations. Coffee lovers will be at home here, as Cobán produces some of the best coffee in Guatemala. Touring a coffee plantation is a great way to get a feel for the ins and outs of coffee production. While staying in this area, you can also go bird watching in the Quetzal Biotope or hike to the Sachichaj waterfall.

La Posada is located near the center of Cobán. This location allows you to access all the amenities of the city and then retreat into the colonial confines of the hotel. The hotel’s garden is tranquil and makes it easy to forget that you’re in a city.

The hotel has 22 rooms, which can sleep 1–3 people. The rooms are furnished with wooden furniture, antiques, and local artwork. Each room has a private bathroom with a hot water shower—this is especially nice after a day in the misty conditions that sometimes happen here. The bathrooms have shampoo, soap, and towels. All rooms are also outfitted with a telephone, cable TV, and wireless Internet. This allows you to stay in touch with friends and family back home, or just surf the tube and find something to watch.

The restaurant here serves tasty homemade meals and a variety of affordable dishes. Breakfasts and dinners are offered, and lunches can be packed for daytime outings. The restaurant has wooden walls and gives off a rustic vibe.
Although the hotel is in the center of the city, it has access to a small forest. Paths wind up a hill, leading to a mirador that offers good views of the surrounding area. Plants and flowers line the trails.

La Posada boasts ample parking, laundry service, and fax service. Guests are invited to store valuables in the hotel’s safe, and there’s a shop in the lobby where you can buy regional products, including coffee, tea, handicrafts, souvenirs, and toiletries. The staff here can also help plan special events.
