Amatique Bay is located along a bay outside Puerto Barrios. The hotel has a secluded location and a huge swimming pool.

Puerto Barrios is a large port city along Guatemala’s Caribbean coast. The town itself is hot and unappealing, but there are areas outside the town that are pleasant. In the places that surround some of the more remote hotels in this area (as is the case with Amatique Bay), travelers can enjoy horseback riding, bird watching, hiking, and kayaking.

The Amatique Bay Resort is set to the southeast of Puerto Barrios on a fairly large piece of land. It’s a secluded and tranquil place.

Accommodations are set in various villas that are scattered around the property. All rooms come equipped with two queen size beds, air conditioning, and satellite TV. The private bathrooms have a hot water shower and bathtub. All rooms also have an armchair and closet.

The larger “Mediana” rooms have a dining room and fully equipped kitchenette—this is a good option for guests that would like to cook or store food in their room. The largest accommodation options are “Magna,” which include not only a dining room and fully equipped kitchen, but also a living room with three sofa beds. This is a good choice for larger groups or families.

The hotel’s huge swimming pool is undoubtedly one of its best features. There is both an adult and children’s area, which are connected by a channel. There is a wet bar at the adult pool and a pirate castle in the children’s pool. Another pool has several fun waterslides to try out. There are lots of chairs to sunbathe in and a private beach and dock where you can watch the sunset. There are also places to play beach volleyball and soccer.
Guests of Amatique Bay can dine at the hotel’s two restaurants. Enjoy traditional dishes at Puerto Chico and Caribbean flavors at the poolside Mango’s restaurant. Mango’s has a menu inspired from the Garífuna people in Puerto Barrios—try a tapado (a seafood soup made with coconut milk, spices, and plantains) or ceviche. Amatique Bay has meeting rooms that guests can use and a reading area in the lobby. There is also a marina where guests can dock boats. The hotel staff is friendly and goes out of their way to help guests have a pleasant time.
