Where Can I Exchange Money in Laos?
Money can be exchanged at banks, official exchange booths, and some hotels throughout Laos. The best rates are typically found at bank exchange counters in city centers.

Official exchange booths operated by commercial banks in Vientiane and Luang Prabang offer competitive rates and reliable service. Airport exchange counters are convenient but typically offer less favorable rates. Hotels can exchange money but usually at lower rates.
Bring US Dollars or Thai Baht for the best exchange options. All foreign banknotes must be in excellent condition, crisp and unmarked with no tears or writing. US bills must be dated 2009 or newer; older or damaged bills may be refused.
Exchanging Lao Kip outside the country is extremely difficult, so plan to use or exchange remaining Kip before departing Laos.
