Places you'll stay
Bangkok
The gilded spires of the Grand Palace and the towering silhouette of Wat Arun dominate the Chao Phraya River’s waterfront, instantly marking Bangkok as a city where historic ceremony meets riverine bustle. Bangkok, Thailand’s capital, sits in the central river delta and serves as the nation’s political, economic and cultural hub. With an estimated 11.4 million residents in 2024, the metropolis forms the core of a metropolitan region that houses over 17 million people.
Kanchanaburi
At the meeting point of the Khwae Yai and Khwae Noi rivers, Kanchanaburi town spreads along the northern bank of the Mae Klong. It is a town municipality in Kanchanaburi Province, western Thailand, situated roughly 120 km west of Bangkok. In 2017 the town’s population numbered 25,651, reflecting a decline from earlier counts.
Samut Songkhram
At the mouth of the Mae Klong River, the sandbar of Don Hoi Lot draws attention for its dense beds of the endemic shell Solen regularis. Samut Songkhram is a central province of Thailand that lies where the river empties into the Bay of Bangkok, and it remains the nation’s smallest province by area. Locals also refer to it as Mae Klong, a name that echoes its riverine setting. The province is noted as the birthplace of the Siamese twins Chang and Eng, born on 11 May 1811.
Hua Hin
The stretch of bright white sand and a line of weather‑worn rocks that earned the early name Samore Riang still defines Hua Hin’s main beach, a place that has hosted Thai royalty for a century. The town sits on the Gulf of Thailand in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, about 199 km south‑southwest of Bangkok, and forms the centre of the government‑promoted “Thai Riviera” between Phetchaburi and Chumphon. With a 2019 population of roughly 66 000, it functions as a beach resort town that grew around the southern railway line.
Bang Saphan
Bang Saphan stretches from the steep rise of the Tenasserim Hills in the west to the calm waters of the Gulf of Thailand in the east, offering a rare blend of mountain and sea within a single district. It lies in the southern part of Prachuap Khiri Khan province, central Thailand, and functions as an administrative amphoe. The district shares its northern border with Thap Sakae and its southern edge with Bang Saphan Noi, while the international frontier with Myanmar’s Tanintharyi Division runs along the western hills.
Koh Tao
Koh Tao draws divers with its extensive coral reefs and clear waters that reveal abundant marine life. The island sits in the Gulf of Thailand and belongs to the country’s eastern seaboard. Its shoreline is lined with white‑sand beaches that frame the turquoise sea. A range of resorts and bars pepper the coast, offering accommodation and evening relaxation.
Koh Pha Ngan
Koh Pha Ngan draws global attention each month when its shoreline hosts the Full Moon Party, a celebration timed to the lunar cycle. The island lies in the Gulf of Thailand and belongs to the country of Thailand. Its coastline is lined with white‑sand beaches and swaying coconut trees that frame the nightly gatherings.
Koh Samui
The island’s most recognizable silhouette is the towering Big Buddha Temple that watches over its coastline. Koh Samui is a sizable island in the Gulf of Thailand, known for its long stretches of picturesque beaches that meet a tropical rainforest interior. Upscale hotels line the shore, offering a modern contrast to the natural scenery.
Khao Sok
Khao Sok National Park protects the largest stretch of virgin forest in southern Thailand, a landscape where towering limestone karsts rise from a network of rivers and a 165 km² reservoir. The park lies in Surat Thani Province, on the Malay Peninsula of Thailand, and is centered on Cheow Lan Lake, the water body created by the Ratchaprapha Dam. Its remote, rain‑soaked terrain has earned it a reputation as one of the country’s wettest regions, receiving about 3 500 mm of rain each year.
Khao Lak
Lak Mountain, rising to 1,050 metres, guided ancient seafarers toward the safe harbor at Thap Lamu, a landmark that still defines the area. Khao Lak is a cluster of tourist‑oriented villages in Phang Nga Province, Thailand, situated on the Andaman Sea coast about 60 kilometres north of Phuket. The name now covers settlements on both sides of the mountain, from the original beach Hat Khao Lak and the bay Ao Khao Lak in Lam Kaen Sub‑district to the northern villages of Khuk Khak Sub‑district in Takua Pa District.
Ao Nang
Long‑tail boats line the pier at Ao Nang, shuttling travelers to the scattered beaches of Krabi’s mainland and its nearby islands. The town is a resort settlement in the Mueang Krabi District of Krabi Province, Thailand, and functions as a central point for visitors to the coastal region. Its main street stretches along the shoreline, dominated by restaurants, pubs, shops and other businesses that cater directly to tourists. A modest stretch of sand forms the main beach, where sunbathers find space amid the constant movement of boats.
Phuket
A 45‑metre marble‑clad statue of the Buddha dominates the hilltop above Ao Chalong Bay, offering a panoramic view of Phuket’s coastline. Phuket is a province in southern Thailand that consists of the country’s largest island and thirty‑two smaller islets in the Andaman Sea. The island’s population has swelled to around six hundred thousand, with many expatriates adding to its multicultural character.
