A Grand Family Anniversary Trip
Belize is beautiful and completely exceeded our expectations. This special 50th wedding anniversary celebration trip for the 10 of us went flawlessly, and we all couldn’t wait to come back!
A very special celebration vacation…
This trip to Belize was a big one for us. It was a celebration of my and my partner’s 50th wedding anniversary, and we had invited extended family members along for the adventure. Andrea did a wonderful job putting the trip together for all 10 of us.
Fond memories in Tikal and Mayan ruins…
We even managed a tour to visit Tikal on the Guatemalan side of the Mayan site. Our guide was obviously very experienced and professional. Tikal is a place I could explore for a week, so the only downside was not asking for at least a two-day tour. I have several pictures of Sr. Lopez showing us how to play ball and climb a vine rope. What fun! So thankful for a dear man who transported tourists back and forth from the gate. We wanted to do all the climbing and walking but are not as young as we used to be!
Our favorite part of the trip…
We love Ambergris Caye. The men hung out at the local bar and restaurants while us ladies shopped in the surrounding shops. My son-in-law loved tooling around in a golf cart — but my husband hated the little engines! Definitely go to the reef to snorkel or dive! Lots of birds and wildlife even in the hotel area. We are nature lovers and would explore other parts of the island, perhaps next time!
Places you'll stay
San Ignacio
San Ignacio, often referred to as Cayo, is a laid back town in the western foothills of the Mayan Mountains. Located right along the Western Highway, San Ignacio is popular among travelers as it provides modern tourist amenities while retaining its authenticity. The town sits directly on the meandering Macal River and is surrounded by green rolling hills where adventure awaits.
Ambergris Caye
Ambergris Caye is Belize’s largest island and the most well known destination in Belize. Located at the northern end of Belize’s waters, a small channel dug by the Maya separates Ambergris Caye from Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. The narrow, 25-mile (40-km) long island is surrounded by the Caribbean’s aquamarine waters and consists of mangroves, lagoons, and the laid back town of San Pedro, which sits upon a low sandy plateau near the southern end of the island.
Tikal
Tikal, with its towering Mayan ruins and vast primary forests, is one of Guatemala’s most awe-inspiring sites. The ruins are undoubtedly the country’s best—huge temples and limestone pyramids dominate the landscape. The structures are a part of the Tikal National Park, a huge protected area that helps conserve some of Guatemala’s most pristine outdoor areas. Visiting Tikal is an absolute must while in Guatemala.

Tikal National Park
Set within the northern reaches of Guatemala’s Petén department is the incredible Mayan site of Tikal. With its massive Mayan temples, steep limestone pyramids and thick green jungles, Tikal is undoubtedly one of the top attractions in Guatemala. The ruins and surrounding forest are located within the Tikal National Park.
Maya Biosphere Reserve
The Maya Biosphere Reserve is the largest protected tropical forest in North America. Spreading across 4.3 million acres (1.7 million hectares) in Guatemala’s Petén department, this reserve protects huge expanses of forests and the Mayan ruins that lie within them.
