Antigua is one of Guatemala’s most lovely towns. Its cobblestone streets are lined with 18th-century churches and tasty international restaurants. Antigua is a fun place to explore on foot—you can pop into local museums and chic cafés, or else shop for gifts in one of the town’s many stores. Hiking and mountain biking can be enjoyed in the area outside Antigua. The towering Agua Volcano is an especially popular place to hike.
Posada La Merced’s central location makes it easy to walk most everywhere in Antigua. This is especially nice if you want to explore town but don’t want to be out all day—you can return to the hotel whenever you feel like it.
The rooms here are clean and fairly simple. They are decorated with Guatemalan artwork and have windows that face a central courtyard. The rooms have comfortable beds and can sleep up to four people. Both private and shared bathrooms (with hot water showers) are available.
One of the best parts of the hotel is its rooftop terrace, which offers up sweeping views of Antigua (including the La Merced Church, for which the hotel is named) and the Agua Volcano. Enjoying a fresh cup of coffee here in the morning is an unbeatable way to begin your day.
There is free Internet offered on the hotel’s public computers, and beer and wine that are available for purchase. There is also a small kitchenette on the main floor where you can store food and prepare light meals.
The staff at Posada La Merced is professional and helpful. They can answer any questions you may have about Antigua and suggest restaurants or activities to try out.
